The canvas is taut on the frame. Unexamined out of frame. A very significant tear to the canvas, vertically to the right of the sitter's face and horizontally across his toga and hand, approx. 12 cm in total, resulting in a loose flap of canvas centrally. Corresponding paint loss and flaking. Fine and settled craquelure throughout. Some marks and discolouration to the paint surface. Minor further abrasions and surface dirt generally. This work is in poor condition overall.
