LOT 22

After Pierre-Jules Mene (French 1810-1894)

[ translate ]

After Pierre-Jules Mene (French 1810-1894), a patinated bronze model of a whippet, after the Jiji and Giselle group, naturalistically modelled, portrayed mid-movement, on an oval base cast to resemble a carpet, signed to the maquette, 15 x 15cm

Provenance: Shefford Woodlands House, Berkshire

The proceeds of sale from this collection will be donated to a number of local charities.

Condition Report:
The bronze has a warm variegated reddish brown patina overall. The bronze bears the minor marks, knocks and scuffs overall consistent with age. There are three or four very small casting inconsistencies resulting from the manufacturing process, including to the belly, rear right leg and right side of the hound, and three or four short and narrow dents to the base (probably also the result of the casting). There is also small circular indentation to the base (circa 0.3cm), above the signature. The lot would benefit from a gentle clean to address the dust in the recesses, but is in perfectly presentable condition overall.
