Condition Report:
Overall fair condition. Age-related abrasions and craquelure along the edges of the canvas. Relined with wax resin and appears to retain its original stretcher. Scattered inpainting throughout, more heavily bordering his proper left hand, where a patch of restored canvas is visible in natural light. Enhanced inpainting around his hairline and facial features. Two faint scratches to the canvas at the sitter’s proper left. Inscribed in red paint, at the top right of the stretcher bar, X.2129. Inscribed in pencil on the back, at the bottom center of the frame, 41765. The painting has a back board attached.
