After Titian Flora

[ translate ]

Property from Ollerton Grange: an Interior by Robert Kime

After Titian
Flora

oil on canvas
unframed: 77 x 63.1 cm.; 30¼ x 24⅞ in.
framed: 95.4 x 82.6 cm.; 37½ x 32½ in.

Condition Report:
The canvas is lined. The paint surface is clean the varnish is clear, but it has become uneven in parts. No losses to the paint surface can be noted. Networks of craquelure can be observed throughout the composition, especially on Flora’s chest, but these appear to be relatively stable. A few spots of retouching, that have become discoloured over time, are visible to the naked eye: these can be found just left of the sitter’s head and in her hair on the right. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms these as retouchings, while also revealing some strengthening to the pattern on Flora’s tunic, as well as a couple of minute spots over her right hand. Overall, the painting is in good condition. It presents well and is ready to hang.

Catalogue Note:
This painting is a copy after the renowned picture in the Uffizi Gallery, Florence, by Titian (1485/90–1576), dateable to circa 1517.1

1 Inv. no. 1890 n. 1462, oil on canvas, 79.7 x 63.5 cm.; Flora by Titian | Uffizi Galleries.
