Place of Origin: Tokyo Size: (7x14.1/2in) Special Notes: In tiny font, listing the historical events pictured of samurai battles and historical scenes right margin. Special Notes: Dramatic scene from the life of the Emperor Go-Daigo, whose plans to overthrow the Kamakura Shogunate were betrayed. He sought refuge in the monastery at Kasagi, high atop the mountains, but the Shogun's army attacked the castle and set it on fire. The emperor was forced to escape in a storm, barefoot and dressed as a commoner, assisted only by the two brothers Fujifusa and Suefusa. Here he climbs the rough mountainside, one brother taking him by the arm, the wind whipping his yellow robe around him and blowing his woven hat down the rocks. He leans heavily on a bamboo walking stick, unused to walking at all, as the other brother climbs up behind him. Smoke and flames pour from the castle at upper left, billowing into the dark night sky.
