A very fine pair of ormolu candlesticks after a model by Jean-Démosthène Dugourc Pierre Gouthière The upper part of each candlestick features three conjoined caryatid maidens with beads in their hair and braids that tie up beneath their neck, alongside foliage and swags. With their triple female caryatid tapering baluster-shaped stem, these candlesticks bear close similarity to a design attributed to Pierre Gouthière Literature: Hans Ottomeyer en Peter Pröschel, 'Vergoldete Bronzen', 1986, p. 286, pl. 4. 15. 2. Literature: For illustration, a similar candlestick from circa 1785 in Schloss Pillnitz, Dresden and pl. 4. 15. 3. Pierre Gouthière, circa 1785.
