Agate Dzi bead, ‘Banzhu’, Liao dynasty
A banzhu-style Dzi ritual bead, crafted from agate with a transverse perforation. It has a domed shape, with a flat base in a cerulean blue hue and a front face decorated with an ‘eye’ pattern formed by fine concentric bands in white and cobalt blue. Liao Dynasty (916–1125) or later.
