\Artist: Agatha Zethraeus (1872-1966)
Technique: Oil on canvas\Signature: Hand signed
Agatha Zethraeus (Amsterdam 1872 - 1966 Zeist) . The Swedish-Dutch Agatha Zethraeus is best known as a pupil of Piet Mondriaan. It is said that they had an affair, but this is by no means certain. The female painter showed talent at an early age and followed a course at the ‘Dagtekenschool’ for girls in Amsterdam. She supplemented this education with lessons with artists. Cornelis Kuypers taught her in Renkum (ca. 1905) the 'plein air' painting of landscapes and Piet van Wijngaerdt taught her how to paint still life. But her passion was cityscapes, which she painted to her heart's content in Amsterdam and exhibited at De Onafhankelijken and Sint Lucas. The offered painting is privately owned and shows a beautiful depiction of a cityscape. The work has been signed in the bottom left corner and has been painted on canvas. The work is fitted in a gold-coloured frame. The book about this artist is attached for illustration purposes only. Viewing of the lot is of course possible. All contact information can be found on our own website.
