Akstafa
late 19th century, 282 x 124 cm, East Caucasus, Shirvan
Four eight-pointed star medallions in red, white and blue enclosing a cruciform composed of abstracted trees adorn the dark blue field. Ten large peacocks arranged in pairs confront each other in the free spaces. The fact that each peacock is associated with a much smaller peacock is a feature rarely encountered. As is usual in this rug group, the field ground is densely covered in small designs. The white main border shows a vine composed of colourful bird pictograms.
Condition
Good condition.
