Black/White XVIII
acrylic on canvas
40⅛ by 38⅛ in.
101.9 by 99.4 cm.
Executed in 1968.
Condition Report:
This work is in very good condition overall. There is evidence of light handling at the edges of the canvas with associated faint craquelure at the turning edges and a few resultant pinpoint losses. Under Ultraviolet light inspection, three areas fluoresce darkly and appear to have benefited from light restoration: the first at the right edge approximately 15 inches above the lower right corner; the second at the upper edge approximately 14 inches from the right corner; and the third with a few areas in the upper left quadrant approximately 16 inches below the upper edge and 12 inches from the left edge. A further pinpoint studio drip at the lower edge fluoresces brightly but is not the result of restoration. Framed.
Framed dimensions: 41 by 38 7/8 in. (104.1 by 98.7 cm.)
Provenance:
André Emmerich Gallery, New York
William S. Paley, New York (acquired from the above in March 1969)
Acquired by bequest in 1990 by the William S. Paley Foundation
