Alaia two-piece knit ensemble sweater and maxi-skirt designed by Azzedine Alaia for his spring/summer 2000 collection.
A two-piece brown chenille knit ensemble cardigan and maxi skirt with an embroidered navy polka-dot pattern throughout. The soft textured knit pieces are fitted typically with Alaia whose designs feature a sculptural silhouette. The cardigan has a silver hook eye closures and ribbed knitted cuffs and hem; the skirt has an elasticated waist with vertical seams and gored panels for a streamlined silhouette with the skirt flaring towards the hem. Both pieces have an Alaia label sewn at the interior size medium both knits have stretch.
Alaia is credited as one of fashion's most significant sculptures. Rather than building a shape his patterns celebrated the existing female form. The viscose and stretch knits with strategic cutouts were a second skin that was daring sexy and glamorous. Hamish Bowles in 2017 wrote for Vogue chronicling Alaia's career and their friendship writing about how he was one of the only designers who was able to get models like Linda Evangelista and Naomi Campbell to walk in his shows by giving them runway samples.
