Alaia | 2012 Black Velvet Biker-Style Jacket
An Alaia black velvet accented with silver glitter biker-style jacket and silver-tone hardware likely from Alaia's 2012 collection. Alaia is quoted saying "I wanted to do sculpture when I was at the School of Fine Arts. It comes from there my interest in the curves of the body."
An asymmetrical zip-closure moto jacket composed of black velvet with silver glitter accented in the fabric pile. The jacket is fitted with square shoulders tailored bust and hem that fits tightly below the waist. An Alaia label on the interior and a size tag marked a French 38. Alaia introduced cropped biker-style jackets into his ready-to-wear collection in the fall of 1990 and redesigned the house staple in 2003. This style jacket continues to be integrated into collections.
The Alaia Foundation notes Azzedine Alaia's legacy due to his skill writing "Until the end of his life Azzedine Alaïa cut and sewed pinned and fitted and personally made his own patterns. Above all else it was this process of haute couture that he enjoyed the most. He trained his ateliers in the exacting methods of cut and creation he himself had been perfecting all his life."
