[ translate ]

This impressive 19th century terracotta sculpture, signed by Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse, depicts a lively scene with four dancing putti. Surrounded by scattered bunches of grapes, this work is a testament to the artistic skill and passion for detail that distinguished Carrier-Belleuse. Signed on the back, the sculpture is made entirely of terracotta, while the base is intricately gilded to create the illusion of a wooden base. Despite some signs of wear, chips and old repairs, which can be seen in the photos, the sculpture remains a remarkable example of the 19th century artistic heritage.

Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824-1887) , also known as Carrier-Belleuse, was an outstanding French sculptor of the Second Empire, distinguished by his eclectic works and his contribution to the decorative and industrial arts. His style, influenced by the Italian Renaissance and the 18th century, was characterized by a revival of those periods with a modern twist. As head of his studio in the Rue de la Tour d'Auvergne in Paris, which was home to many artists, including Auguste Rodin, he played a central role in the artistic community of his time. Carrier-Belleuse enjoyed the patronage of Napoleon III and was eventually appointed director of works of art at the prestigious Sèvres Manufactory. His works, highly valued and recorded in P. Kjellberg's "Dictionnaire des sculpteurs", testify to his enduring influence on the art world.
