#Exclusive. Art. Week Albert-Charles Lebourg (Montfort-sur-Risle. 1 February 1849 – Rouen, 6 January 1928) was a French painter. He was considered to be part of Impressionism. Lebourg's work was strongly influenced by the colourist Jean Seignemartin (1848-1875) , whom he had met in Algiers, and by the School of Rouen, to which he is also counted. Enthusiastic about canvases by Édouard Manet and Gustave Courbet, whom he had seen in the Parisian salon, he eventually opted entirely for the style of Impressionism. He painted a lot of landscapes, with a strong emphasis on atmosphere and structure. Like Claude Monet and Alfred Sisley, he often painted the same motif under different circumstances. In 1879 and 1880, Lebourg participated in the fourth and fifth major impressionist exhibition in Paris and in 1883, he exhibited in the Paris salon for the first time. He then lived alternately in Île-de-France, Auvergne and Normandy. From 1895 to 1897, he spent most of his time in the Netherlands, where he painted in the Rotterdam and Dordrecht area. He wrote: "Holland has greatly seduced me. I love the ever-changing clouds, the rivers, the canals. I am happy to paint here. I feel at home here. I am in a country that should have been mine. " [1] In 1900, Lebourg travelled to England and in 1905 to Switzerland. Lebourg exhibited at the World's Fair in Paris in 1900. In 1918, he had a large overview exhibition at Galerie Petit in Paris. In 1925, he suffered from paralysis and stopped painting. In 1903, he was knighted in the Legion of Honour. He passed away in Rouen in 1928. Lebourg's work is currently on display at the Musée d'Orsay and the Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume in Paris, the 'Musée des beaux-arts de Lyon' and the 'Musée des beaux-arts' in Rouen. The piece of art comes from a private collection and is in good condition. The painting was purchased on the Tefaf at the time. #exclusiveartweek
