Biography: Lebourg who was born in 1849 initially an student at the Ecole des Beaux Arts of Rouen, he completed his training in an architectural office and worked alongside Jean-Paul Laurens. All through his life he traveled extensively, spending several years in Algeria as a drawing teacher for the Beaux Arts Society of Algiers, and also visiting different European countries which inspired many of his landscapes. He lived in the Auvergne region from 1884 until 1888, but preferred above all the countryside of Normandy and ended up settling in Rouen. He joined the Impressionist group early on, appearing twice in the group's shows in 1879 and 1880, and continued to exhibit at the Salon from 1883 until 1895. Lebourg exhibited regularly throughout France and also spent time in Britain. Primarily a landscape artist, he continued to paint until 1921, when he suffered a stroke that left him paralyzed.
