MAGNIFICENT EDITION OF THIS CLASSIC OF SYMBOLIST LITERATURE, WITH SUPERB ART NOUVEAU ILLUSTRATIONS BY PAUL SIEFFERT. Paul Sieffert (1874-1957) , student of the Beaux-Arts, received the teaching of Jean-Léon Gérôme, Gabriel Guay and Albert Maignan. He won the Grand Prix de Rome in 1902. Very active in various artistic circles, notably the Society of Friends of Bordeaux, he was also known for his stained glass windows (the three windows of the parish church of Saint-Martin in Cognac) Albert Samain (1858-1900) , On the sides of the vase, illustrations by Paul Sieffert, Association Grolier, founded by Charles Meunier, 1929, Paris In-folio (34. 5x27. 5) , 158 pp, 2 ff, full blue leather decorated with gilded irons representing on the first a starry sky and a marsh with lotus flowers, silent second cover, spine with four bands, author, title, date and illustrator on the spine in gilt letters, gilt fillet on the spine, morocco hunting, inside cover and endpaper in marbled felt, lined case, covers and spine preserved, with bookmark. Book illustrated with 53 compositions with serpentes by the painter Paul SIEFFERT engraved on copper in color by Paul Maccard, including the frontispiece and the title. This color edition was printed in 165 numbered copies, including 150 for the members of the Grolier association and 15 for the collaborators, nominative copy printed for Mr. Hector de Villaine mounted after the cover (Number 93) . The letterpress printing was printed on the presses of G. Kadar, in Paris, the copper engravings by spotted plates (200 coppers) necessary for the color reproduction of the illustration were executed by Mr. Paul Maccard. The color prints were printed by MM Leblanc and Trautmann. Very good state
