Albert Stickney - THE TRANSVAAL OUTLOOK (1900)

[ translate ]

Second Anglo-Boer War

Publisher's coarse red cloth binding with gilt titles on front panel and spine.

139pp with 3 fold-out maps and 1 diagram.

Contents clean. Binding tight.

'The work deals with the position at the seat of war in South Africa and the difficulties of transportation. The writer, though extolling the valour of the British army, descants on "its lack of brains" and "the lack of adequate mental powers in the men at the head." He warns Great Britain that she is at the end of her resources, after allowing "the helm of state to get into the hands of a cheap Birmingham demagogue (Joseph Chamberlain), who in his nature has nothing whatever that is noble or magnanimous." ' - Mendelssohn Vol.II, page 439

At the end of the book the author asserts the cause of the war in plain unambiguous language:

"A few months ago he (Joseph Chamberlain) called it a war for the CIVIL AND RELIGIOUS RIGHTS OF THE UITLANDER! But who ever looked for the truth from Mr. Joseph Chamberlain? GOLD! GOLD! GOLD!"
