\Artist: Alberto Helios Gagliardo (1893-1987)
Technique: Oil on canvas\Signature: Not signed\Dimensions: 79_84. 5_5_cm
Alberto Helios Gagliardo (1893-1987) , Giardino divisionista, oil on canvas, canvas size: 60. 5 x 66 cm; size including frame: 79 x 84. 5 cm. Certified and published painting. Authentication signed by prof. Luca Minella, Turin, 2015 (of which we report the image of the first page among the photos of the lot) . In addition, the work is published in the Rubinacci Aste Catalogue, Genoa, no. 203, 4 June 1985 (Auction of ancient and nineteenth-century paintings, furniture, ceramics, carpets and art objects, Tuesday 4 June - Wednesday 5 June 1985, Genoa, Palazzo Cattaneo Adorno, catalogue edited by Marco Capozzo, Florence, Arti Grafiche Il Torchio, 1985) . This painting is a very rare testimony of Gagliardo's early production marked by his adherence to Divisionism, which the artist will experiment on the example of the flourishing Divisionist scene of the time (following the lesson of Pellizza da Volpedo, Morbelli, Nomellini, Previati, Cominetti) and then abandoned leaving very few canvases like this. The work is in effect a precious testimony of the history of Ligurian divisionism. The authentication reads as follows: "The work can be dated back to the early 1900s and is part of the divisionist research of the early period of Helios Gagliardo: the work is deeply affected by the teaching of Previati and the direction that the circle of Grubicy was taking at the beginning of the twentieth century. It is a refined idyll of nature, a glimpse of a secluded place, full of a flora that is captured in an almost instantaneous impression, combined with an unexpected diagonal rhythmic vortex that moves the entire scene in a kind of proto-ascensional motion. This wind among the shrubs gives life to an interesting dynamism that blends gently with the luminous decomposition of the environment, to which is added a vague echo of symbolism, almost a prelude to a meditative introspection on nature. It should be carefully observed how the artist has been able to create a rich chromatic decomposition that generates a range of half tones expressed in a varied soft but surprisingly vital visual symphony. Such an example can only come from Previati and Grubicy’s teaching, from which, however, it stands out by means of the intimate atmosphere of expectation and contemplative prelude". Condition: the work has been relined and has been professionally cleaned, which has resulted in the elimination of an old, oxidized protective paint, giving the painting its original brilliance and vivacity of colour back. On the canvas there are some small gaps and colour losses visible in the photos, which have not been filled to respect the full originality of the work. The painted surface, however, has been consolidated to avoid risks of future deterioration. With certificate of authenticity and lawful origin. The work will be shipped via express courier within 24/48 hours with insurance. Please note that in case of sale abroad, the item can be shipped only after obtaining the authorisation for export from the Ministry of Cultural Heritage (Certificate of free circulation of Fine Arts) . This usually takes about 20 days. At the moment, due to restrictions to contain the Covid 19 epidemic, waiting times may be longer. The costs for shipments abroad include the cost of documents for Fine Art export and any customs procedures. Customers who wish to receive a registered invoice are reminded to provide their fiscal coder for the issuance of the electronic invoice by sending a message immediately after payment.
