A monograph on the life and art of German Renaissance artist Albrecht Duerer (1471-1528), his paintings, drawings and engravings, illustrated with 473 black and white plates. It was the first catalogue raisonne of Durer artworks published in Germany in 1908. The text is in German. The plate descriptions are in English, French and German.

"Durer, Des Meisters Gemaelde, Kupferstiche und Holzschnitte in 473 Abbildungen", by Valentin Scherer published by Deutsche Verlags-Anstalt, Stuttgart and Leipzig, 1908, first edition, stated third printing [Dritte Auflage]. Published in the series Klassiker Der Kunst in Gesamtausgaben. It was the first ever series of artist monographs, the first attempted catalogue raisonne of famous master-painters of Renaissance and Baroque. Therefore, these monographs have a high art-historiographic value.

Valentin Scherer (1878-1920) was a German art historian. He is known best for this illustrated catalog on Durer.

Born in Nuremberg, Durer established his reputation and influence across Europe when he was in his twenties due to his high-quality woodcut prints.
