The Life of the Virgin St Joachim and St Anne embracing each other underneath the Golden Gate Engraving with monogram 'AD' on the tablet bottom middle left. This is one of the infamous prints by Marcantonio of Albrecht Durer’s series of the Life of the Virgin, The Durer series date from 1503. As soon as 1505-1515 Marcantonio brought his engraved series on the market in Venice showing the monogram of Durer on his plates. This was leading towards the first counterfeit lawsuit in the history of art, prohibiting Marcantonio to show the AD monogram on his plates.
