Aldo Luongo (Argentine/American, b. 1941), Young Lovers, 1969 Offset Lithograph
Aldo Luongo was born in Buenos Aires and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts before coming to the United States as a professional soccer player. After an injury ended his athletic career, he pursued art full time. His first major commercial success came through widely distributed reproductions of his black-and-white drawings during the early 1970s. He later became known for romantic figurative imagery and was selected as an official artist for several Olympic Games and the 1998 World Cup.
Young Lovers, 1969, is a offset-lithograph in black on paper, mounted to board. The woman’s pale back crosses the dark figure of her companion while the long downward strokes surrounding them give the embrace a private, enclosed feeling. The composition matches documented examples cataloged as Young Lovers, originally dated 1969 and distributed in reproductions by Ira Roberts Inc. around 1970. No signature, date, edition number, or publisher’s label is visible on this copy. Sheet and backing measure approximately 24 × 20 inches. Condition shows overall toning, scattered stains and spotting, adhesive residue along the edges, and mounting to rigid board; image remains clearly presented. Provenance of Martin and Enid Gleich.
