biography
Alex Katz was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1927 and studied at the Cooper Union Art School there from 1946 to 1949 and then at the School of Painting and Sculpture in Skowhegan, Maine until 1950. Alex Katz is best known for his portraits, but also landscapes, for which he developed a simplified, slightly schematized formal language. Katz's work, which includes paintings as well as prints, drawings and sculptures, has been shown in numerous exhibitions around the world. Alex Katz has lived and worked in So. Ho, New York City since 1968.
