Alexander Calder (1898-1976) - "Fêtes"
Aquatint by Alexander Calder on Auvergne Richard de Bas paper (see last photo) .
\r
Tribute to Calder in the form of a prose poem. For these engravings, Calder first made a precise color drawing. Then he cut the shapes thus drawn out of a metal plate. These shapes were then placed on the open press, in accordance with the original design. The colors, determined beforehand, were applied with a brush, the paper was placed on top, and the whole thing was put through the press. These small metal shapes gave a subtle raised imprint in the paper. This personal engraving technique, typically that of a sculptor, aims entirely to obtain an impression of depth and a three-dimensional effect. With its vibrant colors.
