Alexander Henry .451 percussion rifle, 31inch octagonal to round Damascus barrel engraved 'Alex'R Henry 12 South St Andrews St. Edinburgh Patent No. 91 .451' the breach engraved with a lion mask, fitted with micro adjustable folding ladder sight and windage adjustable globe front sight with removable element, Henry patent rifling, the lock mounted with safety catch and engraved with big game and maker name, the re-made chequered stock fitted with engraved steel furniture including patch box to the butt and pistol grip trap, London proof marks, serial number 482 to the barrel and trigger guard. Section 58 (2) Antique / obsolete calibre, can be owned without a licence. Buyer must be over the age of 18, age verification will be required if the lot is to be posted out. Dimensions: 120.5cm longCondition Report The rifle is in very good restored condition. The bore has a good strong rifling pattern throughout but there is some light surface pitting seen in the lands. The muzzle looks to have a recut crown and the barrel has probably been reduced slightly in length to remove a worn crown at the muzzle. The barrel has been re-browned and the engraving has probably been refreshed. The age of the sights is not known, they may be well-refinished parts original to the rifle or they may be replacements. The area surrounding the nipple has some pitting, the nipple has been replaced. The action works correctly with a strong spring. There is light overall pitting to the rest of the metal parts, this is heavier around the trigger guard, where the serial number has been refreshed, and on the butt plate and patch box. The stock is a very well-made replacement. Please register to request a condition report
