Commissioned by Wells Fargo Co, this plaque was made to mark 60 of the original 190 Pony Express stations built between St. Joseph, Missouri and Sacramento, California. It shows a cowboy riding on a galloping horse to the next relay station. Each monument would be decorated with a commemorative bronze plaque mounted on the building, rock plinth or other base. This bronze is listed in the Bergmann books on bronzes, volume 4, pages 1184-1185 and 4759. A great depiction of an era in communications that lasted only 15 months.
