Imperial and Royal Nobility Alexandre Dalton. ( Alexandre d'Alton-Shee) Signed handwritten piece. Paris, 12 February 1815. “Je soussigné Alexandre Dalton. . . ai l'honneur_ de solliciter de la munificence de Sa Majesté le titre de Comte. Mon père William Dalton , né en Irlande d'une famille noble et ancienne dans le comté de Tipperary passa au service de la France. . . . . il fut fait Chevalier de Saint Louis en 1779. . . " (General Dalton then gives the condition of service for himself and his family since his Irish father came to France) . With wax prints of the coat of arms of his father and his own received as Baron of the Empire. (Small repair on the back) . ------------------------------------------------------ A veteran of AUSTERLITZ , EYLAU, FRIEDLAND and SMOLENSK, General Alexandre d'Alton or Dalton was the son of an Irish manufacturer based in Brives. Enlisted from 1791 onward, he served during all of the revolutionary and imperial wars until 1814 and was in charge of various commands and inspections under the Restoration and July Monarchy. Named Baron of the Empire in 1810, he obtained the title of Count from Louis XVIII following this request. His daughter, Aimée d’Alton and his niece Caroline d’Alton-Shee were mistresses of Alfred de Musset, the latter finally marrying the poet’s brother, Paul de Musset. ---------------------------------------------------------------- CNE France certificate of authenticity included Shipping with insurance included.
