Chassis no. : AR0026415. Type-approval: OM19395. FIA approval no. 668. Origin of the car: Italy. First owner: Alfa Romeo Spa. Car with black number plates and fiches for competitions. The history of the Alfa Romeo GTV Turbodelta: In the second half of the 1970s, road rallies were very popular, even the minor ones, and a victory in a race was often considered as a triumph on the track in the Touring Car Championships. At the time, the car that immediately showed great potential for Alfa Romeo was the Alfetta GT, so it was natural to think of it to create a car that could have a good chance in the World Rally Championship. The Alfetta GTV 2000L was launched in 1978 and had a power of just 130 hp, so Autodelta’s engineers used a turbocharger to increase its performance, a solution that was not very popular in the late 1970s among the designers of the Arese company, focused on reducing fuel consumption. The GTV Turbodelta was produced in 1979 and 1980 in just 400 units, all with this name on the registration document: “Alfa Romeo Autodelta 116 36”. Of this “limited” version, some units were transformed by Autodelta into Group 4 cars to officially compete in the Rally Championship, while another small group was used as an “experimental car” to test its efficiency or to research new technical solutions that would later be applied in racing. The result was a very enjoyable, powerful, fast and agile car, with a vigorous acceleration from 1,500 rpm, while around 3,000 rpm the turbocharger kicked in, giving the driver great thrills. The Alfetta GTV now had an engine capable of fully exploiting the great qualities of the Alfa chassis. A peculiar feature of the GTV Turbodelta remains the iconic rainbow-coloured rocker panel at the bottom of the sides. Our Alfa Romeo GTV Turbodelta: This car with FIA Group 4 homologation was part of the experimental group of cars that Autodelta used for research and development for racing. Under its bonnet you can hear the roar of one of the rare turbocharged carburettor engines, specially developed by the Alfa Romeo racing department, then headed by the legendary engineer Carlo Chiti. As originally, this car has a rally set-up, and some modifications performed can be considered unique thanks to the experimentation of innovative mechanical solutions made by the Alfa Romeo racing department. The first owner of this GTV is “Alfa Romeo SPA”, and this would indicate a use by the manufacturer for testing purposes. Now, this car still maintains its Gr. 4 rally set-up and is perfect for historic rallies and events, such as the Rally Legend. Car with black number plates and fiches for competitions. Very rare, great for collectors of historic racing cars. It can be home delivered to Italy and abroad. For non-Italian buyers: there are some additional costs (€270) for the mandatory inspection, as required by law since 01/01/2020, and for the deregistration of the Italian number plates. The extra costs are at buyer’s expense. The car is located in Reggio Emilia, Italy.
