Painting oil on oak panel "Bosrivier". Signed and dated A. Elsen 1972 at the bottom right. A beautiful frame in good condition. Elsen was a pupil of Edward Dujardin and Polydore Beaufaux at the Academy in Antwerp. Around 1874, he was a paying private pupil of the landscape painter Frans Lamorinière. A close friendship developed, such that Elsen took care of him in Lamorinière's last years (when he was blind) . A painter of landscapes in realistic style with motifs that were mainly found in the vicinity of Antwerp. Later work included a more freer style with a better sense of light reproduction. He was a member of the group Aquafortistes Anversois. Works in museums of London, Paris, Antwerp and liège.
