Alfred Hair (American, 1941-1971). An original oil painting on upson board. Features a Florida Highwayman beach seascape during an early morning storm with floral forms and a central palm tree. Artist signature and dated to lower right A HAIR 1970. The artist was a leader and founding member of the Florida Highwaymen, African American landscape artists mentored by Albert (Beanie) Backus (1906-1990), founder of the Indian River School. Hair's death was a defining moment for the movement. Bears a handwritten name and address of original owner to board verso. Presented in a rustic wood frame.
