Alfred Hitchcock Signed Playbill With Profile Sketch
Signed Pamphlet/Booklet

Official Playbill magazine for Neil Simon's play "The Prisoner of Second Avenue". 48pp, measures 6" x 9", [New York, NY], December 1971. Boldly signed by director Alfred Hitchcock in the lower margin of front cover and adorned with a hand drawn sketch of his iconic profile. This instantly recognizable outline became Hitchcock's personal trademark, which he often incorporated into his signature. Moderate handling creases present, with areas of light soiling and rubbing throughout. Small isolated loss to the upper left corner of front cover. Hitchcock's signature shows minor ink blooming and spot stains. Otherwise, a bold example.

Alfred Hitchcock (1899-1980), universally celebrated as the "Master of Suspense," transformed the thriller genre through an unparalleled command of visual storytelling, psychological tension, and innovative filmmaking techniques. Across a career spanning more than five decades, he directed over fifty feature films, including enduring classics such as Rear Window, Vertigo, North by Northwest, Psycho, The Birds, and Rebecca, many of which remain among the most influential films ever produced.

"The Prisoner of Second Avenue" premiered on Broadway at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre on November 11, 1971 and closed on September 29, 1973 after nearly 800 performances. The story revolves around the escalating problems of a middle-aged couple living on Second Avenue after husband Mel loses his job. He in turn suffers from increased paranoia and isolation, giving the play a Hitchcock-inspired feel.
