Alivar - Charlotte Perriand, Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret - Sofa - LC2 - Leather, Steel

[ translate ]

LC2 has broken the conventions of traditional sofa design by having the frame facing outwards rather than inwards, this shows the grace and effort put into the creation of the frame.
The separation between the cage of the structure and the cushions fully expresses the logic of rationalism.
LC2 is a timeless model, which has made design history. Designed in 1928, it is the archetype of the seat in the new and modern concept of furnishings understood as "domestic equipment".

After studying the positions of the human body, Le Corbusier sketched out in principle the designs of the seats capable of universally responding to these positions.
In other words, the aesthetics of the shapes must arise from a concrete need for comfort, from a functional requirement.
The LC2 model saw the light in 1928, thanks to Le Corbusier's meeting with Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand. At the time it was called “Fauteuil Grand Confort, petit modèle”.
The entire collection designed by the three designer architects was produced for the first time by the Thonet company starting in 1930 under the name "Le Corbusier, P. Jeanneret, Ch. Perriand".
A second edition was launched in 1959 by a gallery owner from Zurich, Heidi Weber, with the acronym LC (which stands for “Le Corbusier”) .
On 23 October 1964 the Italian company Cassina acquired the rights to a first group of models – LC1, LC2, LC3, LC4 – designed in 1928 by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, Charlotte Perriand.
