PORCELAIN FIGURES AS ALLEGORIES OF "ASIA" AND "AMERICA".

Meissen.
Date: 18th century.
Maker/Designer: Models J.J. Kaendler, 1745-1746.
Technique: Porcelain, enriched in colours and gold.
Description: The allegory of Asia is sitting on a camel in an oriental robe with headdress. Asia is
depicted as an Indian woman, sitting on crocodile with feather ornaments. In their hands
further attributes of the continent to be represented.
Measurement: Height 16.5cm/19.5cm.
Mark: Swords mark.
Condition C.

The Taxa Kaendler states:
"4. Eine große Grouppe Wie ein Frauen Zimmer auf einem Cameel sietzet und ein Theil der Welt Asien Vorstellet, im Modell auf gehörige Arth zershcnitten und zum abformen tüchtig gemacht." (4. A large group like a wench seated on a camel presenting a piece of Asia, the model cut in according manner and made ready to cast) (September 1745, Bl. 366 r-v)
"4. Eine Grouppe Welche das Theil der Welt Americam Wie ein Frauen Zimmer auf einem Crocodill sietzet Corrigiret, und solches Modell so dann auf erforderliche Weise zergleidert und zum abformen gegeben." (4. A group representing the part of the world America such as a wench seated on a crocodile correcting, and such model then separated into parts accordingly to be cast.) (Oktober 1745, Bl. 394 r-v)
