Alois Kalvoda (1875 - 1934) SUMMER IN A VILLAGE
Around 1910
Oil on plywood
45 x 38,5 cm (h x w)
Signed: Lower left "Al. Kalvoda"
Alois Kalvoda concentrated on rural cottages in the landscape, harvest, forest landscapes, atmospheric phenomena, streams and ponds. He did not favor the melancholic concept of a dreamy landscape. He was inspired by the simple motifs of the Moravian landscape from the region of Břeclav or Strážnice. The verisimilitude and plasticity with which he builds the landscape almost architecturally gives the composition spatial dynamics and, in combination with the sharp summer light and hard shadows, it looks very realistic.
