"Alys Prat declared that he did not like painting but only nature; and, in fact, he sometimes painted for a long time without looking at his canvas as a musician plays without seeing the keyboard, transported in the intoxication of his contemplation, so that it "It is nature itself which speaks directly in its sensitivity (…) ".
This is how the preface to the catalog published by the prestigious Georges Petit gallery begins at the time of the exhibition it dedicated to the works of Alys Prat in 1931. The words are strong and particularly laudatory for an artist ultimately forgotten by the 'the history of art.
This work bears witness to the simple but eminently evocative poetry of this woman painter whose art deserves to be rediscovered today.
