Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920) Watercolor & Ink

Watercolor with ink and pencil on light blue Italian wove paper (having a partial Fabriano watermark from the period), Caryatid, attributed* to Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920). Signed and dated 1913. 10 1/2 x 7 3/8 inches. Good condition overall. Unframed for inspection and post-auction shipping. Sold without frame.

Provenance: Ex-collection Reginald Steengracht van Moyland, Cannes; acquired from the latter by the former owner's family in the early 1970s. Now the property of a prominent French collector.

Reginald ("Reggie") van Moyland was a long time personal friend of the former owner's father. Reginald 's father, Baron Henry Steengracht van Moyland (1869-1932), was an avid art collector, a passion he handed down to Reggie at an early age. Reginald 's keen interest in art and antiques continued until his death in 1992.
