American Carved Walnut Cakeboard, Conger & Watkins

John Conger (ca. 1803-1869) and James W. Watkins (1807-1883), New York, New York, Nineteenth Century. Carved with a view of a gentleman astride his horse and waving a kerchief, surrounded by flower stems and within an intricate border of sawtooth-edged demilunes, circles and flowerheads, stamped "J.(James) Y. Watkins/ N.Y." twice on the front, and "J.(John) CONGER" three times, once on the proper left edge and twice on the proper right edge. H: 11 in., W: 11 in., D: 0.875 in.
