American Classical Mahogany Bookcase with Stand

ca. 1835, Baltimore, attributed to Anthony Jenkins, in two parts, the upper section with a projecting cornice over a pair of glazed doors, each mounted with leaf-carved tracery, and with a band of drawers below, on a base with a burlwood top over a faceted drawer flanked by panels with Gothic arches, supported by columns with Ionic capitals, joined to a concave low shelf, raised on carved paw feet.
h. 82-1/2", w. 45-1/2", d. 26"
Dimensions: 45.5 x 82.5 x 26 in
Condition Report: In good overall condition. The left door has a cracked window to the upper left pane. There are some professional pieced-in repairs to the mid-moldings around the bottom edge of the upper case. Some minor shrinkage to the lower shelf and the veneered surface. The front deck surface of the base may have possibly been re-veneered as the wood is burl walnut while the rest of the piece is mahogany. The inside of the long drawer does not have a writing surface. The lock from the right door has been removed but is present. Exhibits an old refinished surface with good color.
