American Engraved Powder Horn, Boston Siege, 1775
A large horn with map, inscribed "HENRY / MILES / 1775" (identified with Henry Miles, born 1746, a Sergeant-Major in the 7th Massachusetts in 1780 rolls) engraved with a map of Boston and vicinity, with about 23 locations labeled; a large cow horn with carved spout and domed wooden butt cap secured with copper brads, centering a brass capstan post and ring for suspension, 15 1/8 in. L.
Provenance: From the estate of a Maryland collector. Purchased from Ken Drake, Massapequa, NY, August, 2001. Together with copies of various documentation.
