marked "Made by John Bigwood, Manchester, Mass."
53 1/2 x 66 x 21 inches
The central door is decorated with a Grecian urn embellished with a lion and snake and surrounded by foliate and mythical heads. The side sections with urns, foliate and flowers. The cabinet is further decorated with fluted Ionic columns, acanthus leaves, Greek Keys, and ebonized and gilt highlights.
Literature: John and Susan Bigwood lived in Manchester, Massachusetts, and he was 26 at the time of the 1850 U.S. Federal Census. He was recorded as a "chair maker" and was from England.
