American Revolutionary War Flintlock Pistol. American Pistol (attributed to Reading School) in overall fine, untouched original flintlock condition and of small, early, "Kentucky Pistol" form. Octagonal-to-round, rifled, pin-fastened, Approx .45 caliber, 4 1/2", iron barrel. Retains generally smooth, dark-colored steel. Finely Carved Maple full stock with raised carved teardrop accents, around the lock and side plate mortises. The barrel tang is surrounded by a fine relief carving. The carvings of traditional, Early Colonial American design. A fine stock of early form with a short curved grip and Bird's-head pommel. Full Brass mounts of slightly crude Colonial American make. Screw-retained butt-cap with a plain pommel and a matching, integral, rear tang. with flat finial. A plain "rifle type" side plate with both of its iron side bolts and a forged nail was added later. The trigger guard with a faceted bow and an acanthus leaf forward finial of classic "American" form. Made with a ramrod pipe and complete with its original, wooden dramrod, possibly made out of Hickory. Unsigned, flat beveled, engraved lock of Colonial American manufacture with its original components of similar style to other recorded examples. Original Faceted bridle-less powder-pan, gooseneck hammer, rounded frizzen, and teardrop finial frizzen-spring. In mechanically functional order with a strong mainspring and fine timing. A very rare example of a Colonial/Revolutionary War Period American Small-Size Flintlock "Kentucky" Pistol, ca. 1760. Overall length, 9 inches long.
