Timothy Botchford Crane (1773-1845) was the first Chief of the Paterson volunteer fire department in Passaic County, New Jersey. He also engineered the construction of 'Clinton Bridge,' the first chasm bridge across the Passaic Falls, in 1827. His third son, Richard Teller Crane (1832-1912) established R.T. Crane & Bro., later Crane Co., a Chicago-based manufacturer of brass goods and plumbing supplies.

In overall fair and stable condition, with surface dust and even craquelure throughout. Paint loss to right edge of board, likely the result of over-cleaning. Few areas of inpainting visible under UV light examination, with additional retouching to subject's proper left sleeve. Partial label for Chicago-based art restorer affixed to verso.
