American Walnut Slant-Lid Desk in the Chippendale Taste

second half 18th century, the slant lid with a beaded edge, opening to reveal a compartmentalized interior with a central shell-carved door, flanked by columnar document drawers on a case with a graduated bank of four drawers, raised on ogee bracket feet.
h. 38-3/4", w. 36-1/4", d. 19-1/4"
Dimensions: 36.25 x 38.75 x 19.25 in
Condition Report: In good "as found" condition. The piece exhibits normal shrinkage, abrasions, scattered finish losses and wear. The case is tight and sturdy. The slant lid has some shallow chips/losses along its thin perimeter molded edge. There is a loss to a corner of a front ogee bracket foot, visible in the catalogue photo. There are other drawer pull drillings obscured by the replacement brasses. Locks present; no functional key. The interiors of the wide case drawers and the back have been stained. The back and drawer elements appear to be original. There are a number of replaced nails in the drawers and back, as well as a handful of period ones.
