\Artist: Amerino Cagnoni (Milano, 1853 - ivi, 1923)
Technique: Oil on canvas\Signature: Hand signed\Dimensions: 51_43_6_cm
Amerino Cagnoni (Milan, 1853 - there, 1923) , Portrait of a young man dressed as an Egyptian queen, oil on canvas, dimensions 32. 5 x 24. 5 cm. Rare work created by Cagnoni at the age of 38. With this beautiful portrait Amerino Cagnoni adheres to a particular and interesting fashion linked to orientalist painting, namely that of the portrait in costume. In fact, the work is not born as a simple ideal representation of a young Egyptian woman, but is a portrait of a contemporary real person of the painter, who decides to be portrayed in the guise of an Egyptian queen. This type of costumed portraits had some success in the second half of the 19th century, especially linked to the rediscovery of the classical world and the oriental world. In fact, the most common costume portraits are with clothes from ancient Greece and ancient Rome or with oriental-style clothes or those linked to Egyptian civilization as in this case. On the back you can read an ancient indication with the name of the owner, Adelina Panizzardi who is probably also the subject portrayed, there is also the indication "Cairo". The work is contained in a beautiful original contemporary frame. This is a very rare and interesting attestation of the work of Cagnoni, a painter who is also appreciated in international auctions, where he reaches particularly important prices up to € 10,000 and over for significant works like this one. The work is presented on the first canvas, mounted on the original frame and inside the original frame. On the front there are various restoration interventions, in part also altered; there is a natural crack and a small drop of color in correspondence of the left eye of the portrait subject. Note the presence of a particularly oxidized surface paint. The frame shows some signs of deterioration due to the time but overall it is very well preserved, especially considering the richness of the plaster decoration. Work with Certificate of Authenticity and Legitimate Origin. The work is shipped by express courier 24/48 hours with INSURANCE. We inform you that in case of SALE ABROAD the shipment can be made only AFTER HAVING OBTAINED THE EXPORT AUTHORIZATION OF THE MINISTRY OF CULTURAL HERITAGE (Certificate of Free Movement of Fine Arts) . This practice generally involves a WAIT of about 20 days. At present, due to the measures to contain the Covid 19 epidemic, waiting times could be longer.
