[ translate ]

**First Time At Auction**

Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Amlash culture, ca. early 1st millennium BCE. An amusing orangeware pottery quadruped vessel with a bulbous body painted with red and black netted panels. Protruding from the back is a cylindrical filling spout bearing an expressive anthropomorphic maskette with mesmerizing eyes and a tiered, corded coiffure that drapes elegantly down the verso. A gently curved pouring spout extends from the front and bears incised concentric rings and bullseye motifs. The charming presentation of this vessel perhaps suggests its use as a baby feeder with a humorous face to entertain an infant.
