[ translate ]

Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Amlash culture, ca. 800 to 500 BCE. An intriguing example of a hand-built pottery relief panel with a hollow opening on the base. The tapered panel is shaped like a simple axe head, though the front bears an intricate and abstract scene. The top of the panel exhibits the upper torso of a standing figure with a perky nose beneath a broad headwrap, holding one bent arm to the slender abdomen, and surrounded by a series of raised tentacles. A broad strap-like panel is decorated with five applied roundels. Size: 3.2" W x 4.4" H (8.1 cm x 11.2 cm); 5.4" H (13.7 cm) on included custom stand.

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.
