Ammonite Fossil Argonauticeras besairiei Early Cretaceous Ambarimaninga Region Mahajanga Province, Madagascar This relatively large example of Argonauticeras from Madagascar dates to the Early Cretaceous and has a unique striated pattering on its well-preserved shell. The polished nacre is slick, with a visible fracture line in the center which could indicate the piece was once in two pieces. Regardless, the 'finished' fossil is highly dramatic exhibiting both phenomenal preservation and a pleasing blend of mottled coloration. This broad and smooth representation is impressive, from the center whorl to the interior of the outer chamber, where, painstakingly, the complex interior of this fossil cephalopod shell has been prepared.
