"Amor Praetosior Auro". 18th c Nacre, diameter 6,5 x 8,1 cm, unsigned. Oval nacre with emblematic allegorical scene. A sacrifice is made on the altar of Venus and Mars. A text in banderole above reads "Amor [est] Praetosior Auro" (Love counts for more than gold), taken fom Cato's poems. Most probably the lid of a tobacco box.
