Amphore étrusque Bucchero à triple poignée ruban, circa VIe siècle...
Amphore étrusque Bucchero à triple poignée ruban, circa VIe siècle av. J.C.
An Etruscan Bucchero ware triple-handled amphora, circa 6th Century B.C.
39cm high
Provenance
Private collection Belgium, 1960s; and thence by descent, inherited by the current owner in 2000. (Photographed in the family home in the 1980s).
Bucchero amphorae such as the above inspired the Attic potter Nikosthenes to create a similar form with strap handles that was intended for the Etruscan market. The exchange of ideas flowed in both directions, with 6th century Etruscan potters creating vessels partly inspired by the pottery of mainland Greece including Corinth.
