A self-taught artist, Axel Amuchastegui was born in Cordoba, Argentina in 1921. His work extracts a lyrical beauty from the natural environment in which he grew up; raised by his grandmother and parents to have a love of all the creatures of the wild. He illustrated many works, including Birds of the World, Some Birds & Mammals of North America and Studies of Birds & Mammals of South America.
