An Agra Rug, North India, late 19th century

Condition Report:
The pile closely sheared and with some wear, mostly localized in the lower half of the rug. Some further natural oxidation to areas of the taupe and rose-red pile showing the structure. Areas of repiling running intermittently down the vertical and horizontal axis, possibly associated with previous fold lines, only visible to the reverse of the rug. A small area of ink staining to the lower left outer plain stripe and further, similar but smaller spots to the lower half of the field, as shown in the photograph. Scattered warp knots showing on the face of the carpet, also visible in the photograph. (These are very common to these carpets and can easily be spot dyed if felt distracting). Each end with short kilim finishes, with some scattered small losses. The carpet with attractive, small, relatively square proportions. As viewed.
